Agency purpose / vision

Wintringham Housing will ensure elderly men and women who are either homeless or at risk of becoming homeless have access to enduring tenancies in affordable, adaptable and high quality housing. Wintringham Housing will be the world leader in adaptable housing design, development and construction. Wintringham Housing's philosophies, principles and direction shall remain consistent with those of our parent entity, Wintringham.

Agency history

Wintringham Housing was incorporated in 2008 and is a subsidiary of Wintringham. The parent entity (Wintringham) was established in 1989 with a mission to provide high quality aged care, housing and support services to the elderly homeless or those at risk of homelessness. Today the company provides services to over 1,300 elderly vulnerable men and women. Wintringham has provided housing services since 1990 and in 2008 these services were transferred to Wintringham Housing, which has a mandate to further develop and deliver housing and related tenancy management and maintenance services.

Wintringham Housing provides accommodation primarily in one bedroom units to men and women aged over 50 and who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Our client group typically meet the following criteria:
- Recurring homelessness (a history of being homeless or are at risk of long-term homelessness)
- Supported housing (living in unsuitable housing and have high support needs or require major disability modifications made to their home)
- Special needs housing (where current housing is unsuitable for a variety of personal, health or
family reasons)

Wintringham Housing considers that residents with a background of homelessness also require support to assist them to maintain successful tenancies. The entity works very closely with Wintringham to provide support services and also advocates at all levels of government to ensure these services are adequately funded.

In June 2009 Wintringham Housing entered a partnership with the Trustees of the Alexander Miller Estate to revitalise, redevelop and manage housing units that had been developed over the last 100 years by Alexander Miller and his Trust in regional Victoria. In conjunction with the Director of Housing, the partnership has created an unprecedented tripartite agreement previously unseen in the community housing sector whereby Wintringham Housing redeveloped and now manages the Estate's housing portfolio.
