To build a secure future for women and children in need by developing and providing good quality, long term affordable housing.
Women's Property Initiatives (WPI), formerly known as Victorian Women's Housing Association, was established in 1996, to develop innovative mechanisms that provide a range of housing options for disadvantaged women and their children. The agency functions primarily as a social housing developer. Its core focus is on developing affordable housing for female-headed families on low to moderate incomes. While the agency's primary focus is on housing it also provides referrals to counselling, rehabilitation and support services as required.
WPI currently owns: eleven long term rental housing properties in Roxburgh Park in Melbourne's northern suburbs (for disadvantaged women and their families); eight properties in Cairnlea in the western suburbs (for women exiting justice facilities who have a requirement for long term affordable accommodation with some level of support); fourteen apartments in Bundoora; nine apartments in Footscray, some of which are targeted to low income working women; six apartments in Brunswick, three which house older low income lesbian women; fifteen houses in Truganina and Tarneit housing disadvantaged women and their children, several who are refugees; and two houses in Epping housing women who have escaped family violence.
