Agency purpose / vision

Empowering our community to be free from homelessness, abuse, suffering and disadvantage and to lead safe, secure, healthy and fulfilling lives

Agency history

MASP evolved through the amalgamation of two former local agencies in 1994. . These agencies were the Sunraysia Youth Accommodation Project (SYAP) and the Sunraysia Emergency Accommodation Centre (SEAC) Emmaus House. The amalgamation brought the combined staffing complement of the new agency to eight and provided funding for a designated manager. At the time, it established MASP as a cross-target service to the homeless and those at risk of homelessness and complemented its service delivery to the HACC target group and to those on low incomes. In January 1999, the agency experienced further growth with the outsourcing of the Adolescent Community Placement program from the Department of Human Services and entry into the field of residential care. This was followed by growth in the Disability Services area with MASP providing a range of support services. At this time MASP commenced working with young people with a disability on the manufacture and sale of 'Redgum' picnic tables and homewares - a program which was to eventually become 'Just Redgum'. In 2005, MASP was funded to provide Family Services which was further enhanced in 2008 when MASP was selected as the provider of Child FIRST across the Mallee catchment. Further expansion of services has occurred since this time in the development of social enterprises including Netherby Apricot farm and packing shed, family mediation and youth support and mentoring, including the Kokoda Youth Mentoring Program. In 2011 MASP became a Registered Housing Provider opening up future opportunities to expand the availability of social housing. 2015 saw the purchase and development of a new accommodation facility providing semi-supported accommodation for up to seven residents with a disability known as Vidovic House. 2016 has seen the expansion of MASP service delivery with the opening of a Child FIRST program branch and a Homelessness Support Service, including a domestic violence response, in Swan Hill and Dareton (NSW) respectively. Residential Care will expand in 2017 with the introduction of a four bed therapeutic model unit. MASP's Social Housing portfolio has developed over the years and there are currently 12 properties available for tenancy. MASP will expand in 2017 with the introduction of a new four bed unit.
