The Inner Eastern Regional Housing Council Incorporated (Housing Council) was formed in 1985, in Box Hill, to provide long term singles accommodation to those most in need. In 1991, the Housing Council formed the Inner East Rooming Housing Group (IERHG) as a sub-committee of the Housing Council. The Housing Council utilised the IERHG as a trading identity to continue the Housing Council's rooming and group housing programs. Therefore, the Housing Council remained an incorporated association up to the recent name change in December 2008. The Inner East Social Housing Group Inc was formed from this change of incorporated name. In April 2014, Inner East Social Housing Group became a company limited by guarantee
